I do not see a global awakening on the horizon, at least not until after the planet is brought to the brink of utter disaster. We haven't even seen the worst that can happen yet. I'm a bit selfish on that, I'd like to be dead before the planet runs out of water. What humans will do to each other will not be pretty.
