Oh, and...

... while we're at it, it pays to take a moment to look at these wonderful photographs from Africa by the Spanish photographer Ana Yturralde on her whimsically entitled blog, Where My Owl Flies Free and the Lion Roars Wild. For those of us who know little of the continent besides what we read in the press and see on our television screens, these portraits provide and intimate and dimensionally human view of her subjects, and her notes provide an interesting context. Well worth the visit. I found Ana in the comments at I AM KATIA.

Fascinating.

I was forever changed by my two years in West Africa.

I think I might have told you that the emphasis of my history degree was mostly African history. Right now I am reading a book titled, "The Fate of Africa."

It is an excellent read. It's a big, fat book but my kind of book.

Peter-

Actually I've managed to avoid the rain up here in Lawrence. It's been almost sunny, but what I wouldn't give for it to get over 70! (I'm convinced I belong in a tropical climate.)

My folks in Tulsa, OK and those in Springfield, MO haven't been so lucky.

Glad you made it safely back from the South!

James, the book sounds like a good read, but intimidating in girth. I have a couple of others coming in for review, so I guess that one will have to wait a while.

Lindsey--thanks for the welcome home. We have been hearing about the excess of water, and I have been thinking about my Springfield friends. Come visit us here, if you want 70+. It's usually that way.
