Welcome...
... President Obama. And First Lady Michelle. I've been sitting here watching the festivities and choking up more than once with the overwhelming emotion of the moment. Forget the historical stuff, this is personal. An immigrant myself, I'm tempted to say that this is the first time I have felt... American. And today, it's a good feeling.

a fitting end to the bush diaries.
the whole thing, every inspiring and uplifting comment, aretha franklin's "my country tis of thee," and especially obama's speech, was a subtle but deep rebuke to bush and the republicans....and too many democrats.
the only as good as Aretha was Pete Seeger singing Woody Guthrie's "this Land is My Land, this land is Your Land" the other day.
Yes! A truly historical day, indeed. I especially thrilled that my kids got the chance to watch some of it at school (grades 3rd and 6th).
Welcome to what I always believed America could be.
I experienced a palpable sense of relief as the oath was administered.
Thanks, Peter, for your voice of humor, compassion and sanity during the last painful years of the Bush administration.

Woohoo! What a wonderful time I had watching the inauguration. It made me love this country again.
I was especially taken with Obama saying to choose hope instead of fear.
