SOLIDARITY (PO/PO)

Some good folks have only half-way understood my PO/PO initiative (see prior entry) to be a letter-writing campaign. That's only a part of it. (Do these senators read letters anyway, I wonder?) The more important part, as I envisioned it, was about community action, demonstration, solidarity… Remember "Solidarity"--the movement that led to the liberation of Poland from Soviet domination?

So I'm asking the more than 70 percent of us who say we believe in significant health care reform to be "solid" with our friends, our neighbors, our families, ourselves--and yes, our online contacts. I'm looking for access to bigger platforms, more active support... Facebook (follow the link to the PO/PO facebook group), Twitter, big circulation blogs and political sites. Can you do this?

AND I want us all to show up at our local Post Office, letters or cards in hand, at HIGH NOON ON 09/01/09.

Will you help me? Will you broadcast this? Will you be there? Will you shake my hand?

Yes! I've just added a couple of paragraphs quoting you, and your plan Peter, to my draft post for tomorrow (Saturday).

My post is an angry one, probably not very Buddah conscious but I can't not say something about the way our Oklahoam senators have acted this week.

My blog might reach one or two remote places others might not reach. ;-)

The 4 letters my family is sending will go to senators in California who agree with us on the public option. I don't know how to get to those Dems who are blue, foolish or just self serving in other states.

I do agree that the internet blogosphere is the efficient way to reach the most people. Organizing marches is unreliable and expensive. Solidarity through community action at the neighborhood level was how I thought Obama got out the vote and won the election. I intend to follow that tack.

The fear mongering that has emanated from the insurance company lobbies, right wing conservatives and Palin twitter sources re DEATH PANELS have been employed to defeat health insurance for a century has caused compromise to stronger health reform legislation.

FEAR is still a blunt device employed by thugs and pirates who work the public like Machiavelli would.

Hello, Hukkelberg! Welcome aboard, and thanks for the kind words. Please pass on word about The Buddha Diaries.

Reporting back sir! :-)

Posted my two letters spot on 12 noon today.

I also sent an e-mail to our local newspaper, prompted by an e-mail (which others will have received too), from Sens Durbin, Leahy and Schumer.
