He is now a year and three weeks old, a dynamo of energy who requires constant vigilance during his waking hours. They seem to be many! With his Mom much in need of some undisturbed work time to get on with a project for her graduate studies--she has a full-time job, also, not to mention full-time motherhood--Ellie and I took on much of the responsibility for food, entertainment and care of the baby during the four days they spent here...
We were reminded just how demanding a job it is! And what a joy! Little Luka is a miracle: to watch him change and grow, literally by the day, is as amazing as anything I have experienced. He's just now beginning to make the transition from all fours to erect, and directs a great deal of his energy to that learning process. At the same time, he's learning words--their meaning, chiefly, but also how to say them--and his vocabulary grows almost by the hour. What fun it is!
But exhausting, too. We wound up quite depleted when they left yesterday afternoon, even though sad to see them go. A restorative, relaxing walk in the park with George, a turkey sandwich with a bowl of soup, a couple of hours of television--"Homeland," and a teaser for the next season of "Downton Abbey--and off to bed at an early hour. Just the ticket. (I'm enjoying "Homeland," by the way, even though I find that it has serious credibility issues with the main characters. If put to it, however, I'll confess to enjoying the comparable British show, "MI-5," a whole lot more.)
Ah, yes. George, too, is flat-out exhausted!

I clearly remember those days with my sons Cole and Skyler. Every minute was filled with a new sense of how we form our personality and expressions. It's like watching ourselves through a replay form our own toddler past. Watching the looks of "hey grandpa I get it!" are just about the closest kind of bonding available on earth. Luka is a beautiful child and I wish him continued joy and health and hope Sarah is enjoying her time away while attending to her graduate studies.
Luka is joy personified!
Don't you wish you could bottle a child's boundless energy? Think of how much less oil we'd use in this world if we could... :)
