Ellie’s Birthday Stone

Today’s your birthday. I will not say

the number; only that if we reverse

the digits, you would still be

in high school—not the happiest

of memories, I’ve heard. Instead,

let’s honor the number as it stands,

a noble one, in gratitude for birthdays

spent joyfully together; in gratitude

even for those birthdays spent in pain,

since all of them were spent in love,

together. And in gratitude for those

birthdays still to come. May they be

many, joyful ones, and always spent,

no matter how the numbers grow,

in love.

Now I'm trying to figure Ellie's age - whatever it is, she's a lucky soul to have a friend like you. Happy Day to her.

I always liked this from Buddha:

"Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared."

May you days be shared with those who light you candle each day. As far as I can tell your on that path.

Happy Birthday to you Ellie!
