BIOPSY

THEN...

I know you've all been waiting to hear the results of George's biopsy.  Here it is!

DESCRIPTION:
A well-circumscribed, partially encapsulated, densely cellular, and multilobular mass expanded the dermis subcutis.  The mass is composed of small and uniform basal cells in solid, ribbon, and interconnecting trabecular patters.  The tumor cells are round, oval to spindle-shaped with a small to moderate amount of cytoplasm, and round to oval nuclei containing a stippled chromatin pattern.  Mitotic figures were frequent.  A fine to moderate fibrous collagenous connective tissue stroma dissected the mass.

MICROSCOPIC FINDINGS: TRICHOBLASTOMA.

PROGNOSIS: Good.

COMMENTS:
Trichoblastomas (synonym: basal cell tumor) are benign neoplasms that occur commonly in dogs.  There is a site predilection for the head and neck with the base of the ear being a typical location.  Complete surgical excision should prove curative.

BORDERS: The tumor was completely excised.

Hmmm.  I'm none the wiser for that terminology.  These doctors...

Meanwhile, George had his stitches removed yesterday, and has been relieved of his Elizabethan collar!  Oh, joy, oh rapture!

NOW...

He looks a lot happier now he's free of the collar. A quick heads up also, the image with the biopsy results doesn't show on my computer.
