RECESS

The Buddha Diaries is on recess.  I realize that my sense of obligation to the blog has been causing me the kind of stress that the dharma encourages us to avoid, and there's no good reason I shouldn't release myself from this obligation for a spell.

This coming week is devoted to family.  My son arrives tonight from Iowa, where he lives.  I see too little of him, and this is a time to celebrate that opportunity.  Next Thursday, Sarah comes down to Laguna Beach with Luka, to spend a long weekend with her brother--and Luka gets to meet Uncle Jason for the first time.

Also, looking beyond the family visit, I'm having a great time with the novel I'm working on, and I want to devote more time to it.  I have close to two hundred pages written, and it will not be a great deal longer than that.  But there is much work to be done filling out and probing deeper into the material outlined by this rough draft; and, no accidents, that time is opening up ahead of me as I bring my "One Hour/One Painting" season to a close and leave the planning of a schedule for the coming season in the hands of my assistant, now PR man, Adam.

I have no doubt that The Buddha Diaries will resume in a while.  I have threatened in the past to take some time off, only to find myself drawn irresistibly back.  But for now, that other door is open, and I need to walk through, to find out what might await me on the other side.

Wish me luck.  I send out, as always, metta to all.
