RULES OF THE ROAD

  

Yellow line, white line,

double white line, double

yellow line, single white

line, single yellow line,

broken line, solid line,

left lane, right lane,

center lane, left turn

right turn, Coyote’s

mind’s a muddle.  Deep

in his heart, he yearns

still for those wide open

spaces, where lines lead

only to the far horizon.

  

WAVES

  

Sometimes, from his hillside,

when the air is very still,

and when his heart is quiet,

he hears the crash of waves

on the distant shore.
