SAN BERNARDINO

I've said this before, but I think it's worth repeating. As people go searching for motives in yesterday's mass shootings--as though this were the most important thing--the question is not Why? but How? How were such obviously disturbed and angry people permitted to lay their hands on the weapons that made this new atrocity possible? The real why question is, why do we continue to allow this to happen? Why do we allow our political leaders to get away with the usual platitudes about hearts going out, to the victims when what we need from them is action? Why do we permit them to be held in a stranglehold by a group of--yes!--fanatics, when the vast majority of us are in favor of sensible regulations when it comes to gun ownership? It's unconscionable.
